Vipers SC have maintained their grip at the top of the Uganda Premier League table after a 2-0 victory over Buhimba United Saints at Royals Park Butema, in Hoima.
Maxwell Owachgiu scored in his own net while Karim Watambala added the other goal as Vipers left Hoima unscathed.
Owachgui skewed into his own goal after Hillary Mukundane had directed a header his way following a long throw in by Enock Luyima after 12 minutes.
The second came from the spot awarded after an handball, with Watambala stepping up to drill it into the bottom corner despite goalkeeper Eliude Amanyire going the right way.
The result means Vipers have completed a league double over Buhimba, having beaten them 4-0 in the first round at Kitende.
Vipers remain top of the table with 55 points from 24 matches, still four points ahead of second-placed KCCA FC, with six games left to play this season.
KCCA also secured a 1-0 away win over Entebbe UPDF in Bugonga, thanks to Sammy Ssebaduka’s decisive goal.
The Venoms want to replicate last season’s performance – winning the double; league and Uganda Cup.
They are still in Uganda Cup where they will face Kitara in the semifinals in a two-legged tie.
The win against Buhimba was all but expected, and they will be aware that more tough assignments are yet to come.
After hosting Entebbe UPPC, their biggest match of the season is a short trip to Lugogo to face KCCA before URA (H), Police (A), Maroons (A) and Express (H).
They will hope to have a couple of players back, with Usama Arafat, Odili Chukwuma, Enock Ssebaggala, Taddeo Lwanga and Gusto Mulongo missing the trip to Hoima.
