Vipers Target Third Straight Win Against Maroons

Vipers SC will be seeking a third consecutive victory when they take on Maroons FC today in a Uganda Premier League encounter at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

The Venoms head into the clash full of confidence after thrashing Blacks Power 4-0 at Hoima City Stadium in their previous outing.

That was their second win of the season, following a 3-0 victory over Ntugasaze after opening their campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Entebbe UPPC.

Gusto Mulongo netted a brace, while substitutes Usama Arafat and Milton Karisa scored a goal each as Vipers cruised to a comfortable victory over Blacks Power in Hoima.

“We played a good first half and scored some good goals as we controlled proceedings,” Vipers coach Denis Lavagne said after the 4-0 win.

“But the second half became more difficult, as the other team pressed more and became more direct. We conceded three opportunities, but fortunately, our goalkeeper Loyce Mbaba made some good saves.

“We have to do better in the second half. We have to be more consistent throughout the game.”

Meanwhile, Maroons head into the encounter on the back of a convincing 3-0 victory over Lugazi at Wankulukuku Stadium.

Second-half goals from Fred Amaku, Dickson Niwamanya and Mujahid Ogama sealed the win for the Prison Warders.

It was Maroons’ second victory of the season, having also beaten Ntugasaze 3-1. However, they have suffered three defeats against URA, Blacks Power and UPDF.

Vipers will be looking to maintain their dominance over Maroons after winning both meetings between the sides last season.

In their encounter at Kitende, Vipers secured a 2-1 victory courtesy of an own goal by Derrick Basoga and a strike from Usama Arafat, while Raymond Walugembe scored Maroons’ consolation goal.

With both sides coming off convincing victories, the clash at Kitende promises to be a competitive encounter as Vipers seek to extend their winning run and Maroons look to build on their recent success.
