Crested Cranes Seek Olympic Qualifier Progress Against Zambia

Tuesday, October 13
•Zambia Vs Uganda – 7pm (EAT)

Uganda’s senior women’s football team, the Crested Cranes, face Zambia today in the second leg of the 2028 CAF Women’s Olympic qualifiers, seeking to secure a place in the next round.

The Crested Cranes claimed a 2-1 victory in the first leg at Nakivubo Stadium, coming from behind after Prisca Chilufya gave Zambia an early lead. Agnes Nabukenya and Sylvia Kabene scored for Uganda to complete the comeback.

Coach Firew Asefa’s side needs at least a draw in today’s return leg to progress on aggregate.

“We know the importance of this game. We believe in ourselves and are ready to give our best for the country,” said Crested Cranes captain Shadiah Nankya.

Uganda, who have never qualified for the Olympic Games, face a formidable challenge against the Copper Queens, who represented Africa alongside Nigeria at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Zambia boast considerable attacking quality, led by Barbra Banda and Racheal Kundananji, and Uganda will need to keep the influential duo quiet to stand a chance of progressing.

The winner over the two legs will face either Ghana or Mauritius in the next round as teams compete for two available slots at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
