SC Villa keep Vipers in sight

Saturday, April 25
•Calvary 1-0 KCCA
•Lugazi 1-2 Kitara
•Maroons 3-1 Police
•SC Villa 4-0 Buhimba

SC Villa put four past Buhimba United Saints to keep their faint Uganda Premier League title hopes alive on Saturday at FUFA Stadium in Kadiba.

Najib Yiga scored a brace while Patrick Jonah Kakande and Charles Lwanga had a goal each as the Jogoos cruised to a 4-0 win.

Frank Ssebuufu was the unsung hero, setting up the two opening goals as Villa ran riot.

Ssebuufu capitalised on a mess by Buhimba defender Derrick Ocen to pass it in Kakande’s way who did no mistake to slot into the net after two minutes.

He did the same for Yiga whose effort took a slight deflection to elude the goalkeeper as the Jogoos doubled their advantage in the 24th minute.

The third arrived in the second half when Yiga pounced on a loose ball after Lwanga’s effort is blocked.

Another Ochen mistake was punished with Villa’s fourth, this time it was Lwanga who squeezed it in from a tight angle in the 87th minute.

The win, the club’s 15th, puts SC Villa third with 51 points, level with KCCA and Kitara who are second and fourth in that order.

SC Villa are four points behind defending champions Vipers who play their game in hand on Sunday against Entebbe UPPC.

For Buhimba, the defeat is the 18th they have suffered in their debut season in top flight as the side remain second from the bottom, two points adrift of safety.
