Entebbe UPPC halt Calvary’s late push

Wednesday, April 29
•Police 2-0 UPDF
•Entebbe UPPC 2-0 Calvary
•Buhimba 0-2 Lugazi
•KCCA 1-1 Vipers

Calvary FC’s momentum stalled as Entebbe UPPC returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory on Wednesday in a Uganda Premier League clash at Fisheries Ground in Bugonga.

Isa Bugembe and Ambrose Kigozi were on target as the hosts secured all three points.

Bugembe opened the scoring in the 23rd minute after Calvary failed to clear their lines, pouncing when Kigozi’s header came back off the post.

UPPC doubled their advantage before halftime when Julius Poloto won a penalty following a foul by John Rogers in the area, and Kigozi stepped up to convert.

The defeat is Calvary’s first in five matches, halting a run that had hinted at a late push for survival.

They had come into the game full of confidence after a shock win over KCCA, a victory against Buhimba, and draws with Kitara and Lugazi.

However, the loss leaves them rooted at the bottom with 13 points, seven adrift of safety with four games remaining.

There is little margin for error for the newcomers, who still have fixtures against Police (H), URA (A), UPDF (A) and NEC FC.

For Entebbe UPPC, the result ends a run of back-to-back defeats against KCCA and Vipers SC.

They were boosted by the return of head coach Abdallah Mubiru, who had missed the loss to Vipers on Sunday following the passing of his father.

The victory lifts UPPC to 43 points, though they remain seventh on the 16-team table, with matches against UPDF (H), Maroons (A), Police (A) and BUL (H) still to play.
