KCCA FC will be aiming to keep the Uganda Premier League title race alive when they host leaders Vipers SC on Wednesday at Lugogo.

The Lugogo-based side sit second on the table with 51 points, seven behind defending champions Vipers SC.

KCCA head into the crucial clash low on confidence after a 1-0 defeat away to Calvary, a result that almost ended their slim title hopes.

However, victory against Vipers would reduce the gap to four points with four matches left to play.

KCCA will still be without Derrick Nsibambi, Bright Anukani and Alpha Ssali Thierry, while James Mubeezi and Umar Lutalo have returned to training.

Youngster Alex Yiga and Enock Walusimbi, who missed the trip to Calvary, remain doubtful for the fixture.

Club captain Herbert Achayi has also faced criticism on social media after attending his wedding on the same day KCCA suffered the defeat that damaged their title hopes.

KCCA head coach Brian Ssenyondo says the team is determined to bounce back.

“We are focused on recovering from the loss to Midigo. It has been a tiresome journey, with games coming thick and fast.

“Football always gives you a second chance, and Wednesday is another opportunity for us to make amends. The game could decide our season, and we are aware of that. We will do our best to put in a better performance.”

Vipers, on the other hand, come into the game full of confidence after a 3-0 win over Entebbe UPDF in their last outing.

Yunus Sentamu scored twice, while Gusto Mulongo came off the bench to add the third goal.

The Venoms remain unbeaten on the field of play this season, with their only loss coming through a boardroom decision after they failed to turn up for their earlier fixture against Kitara.

In the first-round meeting, Vipers claimed a 1-0 victory at Kitende, with Allan Okello scoring the only goal before his move to Young Africans SC.
