AFCON: Hoima, Masindi Hotels Race to Meet CAF Standards

A delegation from the 2027 AFCON Local Organising Committee, led by Vice Chairperson Eng. Moses Magogo, met with hotel owners in Bunyoro to discuss CAF hotel requirements ahead of the tournament.

The team also inspected hotels in Hoima and Masindi to assess their readiness before the official CAF hotel inspection.

A recent CAF report highlighted accommodation gaps in Hoima, prompting the government to move swiftly to ensure all requirements are met in time.

To address the shortfall, UGX 101.1 billion has been allocated under a special Uganda Development Bank facility to support hotel upgrades in Hoima and Masindi.

“I am excited by the energy levels in Hoima and Masindi regarding the hotel preparations for AFCON Pamoja 2027,” Magogo said.

“Whereas there is still so much to be done to complete the works, it is clear that it is achievable. With the support of the Government under AFCON Pamoja, the private sector has been provided with concessional loans to ensure the works are completed on time.”

Speaking on NTV Sport Knights on Monday, Dr Denis Mugimba, Chairperson of the Communications and Signage Sub-Committee of the AFCON LOC Uganda, emphasized the importance of meeting CAF standards.

“CAF is very clear about its commitment to safety and security, ensuring the protection of both fans and players. We must provide top-notch training facilities, the right sporting infrastructure, as well as adequate transportation and accommodation. In particular, Hoima needs to develop 4- to 5-star hotel facilities,” Mugimba stated.
