AFCON U17: Uganda Cubs suffer first loss

Saturday, May 16

•Cameroon 1-0 Uganda
•Ivory Coast 1-0 DR Congo

Table – Group B

  1. Ivory Coast – 6
  2. Cameroon – 3
  3. Uganda – 3
  4. DR Congo – 0

Uganda suffered their first defeat at the ongoing 2026 U17 AFCON after losing 1-0 to Cameroon on Saturday in Morocco.

Abdulraman Soudeisse scored the only goal of the game in the 24th minute, squeezing in a volley at the near post following a delivery into the area.

Uganda struggled to create meaningful chances and were second best for most of the contest.

It was a disappointing result for Uganda, who had beaten DR Congo in their opener and came into the match knowing that victory would secure qualification to both the knockout stage and the FIFA U17 World Cup.

Laryea Kingston’s side now sit third in the group with three points from two matches. Despite having a better goal difference, they are behind Cameroon on head-to-head record.

The Cubs must now beat group leaders Ivory Coast in their final group match after the West Africans defeated DR Congo in the other game.

Failure to win could see the Cubs finish third and face the playoffs for a place at the World Cup, just as they did last year under coach Brian Ssenyondo.
