Uganda’s Cricket Cranes completed their ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League B preparations with a convincing 113-run victory over Hong Kong-China in Dar es Salaam.
Playing at the Annadil Burhani Cricket Ground, Uganda overcame a difficult batting surface to post 213 all out in 48.2 overs before bowling out Hong Kong for just 100 runs.
Sumeet Verma and Alpesh Ramjani anchored Uganda’s innings after early setbacks, producing crucial half-centuries.
Verma scored 58 off 61 balls, while Ramjani made 56 off 102 deliveries to help Uganda recover from a shaky start. Simon Ssesazi also provided a quick 24 from 17 balls.
Hong Kong’s chase started poorly after captain Riazat Ali Shah dismissed Martin Coetzee early, but Anshuman Rath and Babar Hayat attempted to rebuild the innings with 33 and 18 runs respectively.
However, Joseph Baguma turned the game around with a brilliant spell of finger spin.
The spinner claimed five wickets for 23 runs, removing key Hong Kong batsmen and breaking their resistance.
Henry Ssenyondo added two wickets for 15 runs, while Alpesh Ramjani, Sumeet Verma and Riazat Ali Shah picked one wicket each as Hong Kong were dismissed in 31.3 overs.
The victory marked Uganda’s second consecutive warm-up win after defeating Tanzania earlier and gives the Cricket Cranes confidence ahead of their Challenge League B opener against Tanzania on Saturday at the University of Dar es Salaam.
The tournament is part of Uganda’s push towards ODI status and qualification for the ICC Cricket World Cup.
