Team Uganda 2026 Commonwealth Games Incentives
- Athletes will receive US$300 (about Sh1m) per night in Glasgow and have already received training allowances.

Team Uganda athletes heading to the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will benefit from an enhanced financial package, with government pledging generous daily allowances, medal bonuses and monthly stipends to reward outstanding performances.
State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang announced the incentives during the official flag-off ceremony at Mestil Hotel in Kampala on Friday, where Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja commissioned the 55-member contingent to represent Uganda at the Games.
Ogwang revealed that every member of Team Uganda will receive US$300 for every night spent in Glasgow to cater for their stay during the Games. In addition, athletes have already been paid daily allowances covering the final two weeks of residential training ahead of departure.
The government has also introduced attractive medal rewards, with Shs100 million earmarked for every gold medal, Shs50 million for silver and Shs30 million for bronze.
Beyond the one-off cash bonuses, medal winners will receive monthly stipends, with gold medalists earning Shs5 million, silver medalists Shs3 million, and bronze medalists Shs1 million for a duration that will be announced by the government.
The incentives were announced as Prime Minister Nabbanja, delivering a message from President Yoweri Museveni, urged the athletes to make Uganda proud. She also commended the Ministry of Education and Sports, the National Council of Sports and the Uganda Olympic Committee for preparing the team for the Games.
Uganda’s delegation comprises 55 athletes—34 women and 21 men—who will compete in athletics, boxing, netball, 3×3 basketball, cycling, judo, swimming and weightlifting, including para-sport events.
Speaking on behalf of the team, co-captains Husnah Kukundakwe (Para Swimming) and Nuhu Batte (Boxing) pledged to give their all as Uganda seeks to improve on its historic haul of 58 Commonwealth Games medals since making its debut in 1954.
Uganda, which first participated in the Games in 1954 in Vancouver, has won a total of 92 medals, including 21 gold, across the 16 editions it has competed in.
