Joel Sserunjogi unveiled by Vipers

Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have completed the signing of Uganda Cranes midfielder Joel Sserunjogi from KCCA FC on a three-year contract.

The 24-year-old becomes one of Vipers’ key additions ahead of the 2026/27 season as the club prepares to defend the league title, compete in the Stanbic Uganda Cup, CECAFA Kagame Cup and CAF Champions League.

Sserunjogi joins the Venoms after three seasons at KCCA FC, where he made more than 100 appearances and established himself as one of the Uganda Premier League’s top midfielders.

Before moving to Lugogo in 2023, he featured for Kajjansi United and rose to prominence after helping Busiro win their first Buganda Masaza Cup title in 2022.

His performances at club level earned him a maiden Uganda Cranes call-up in 2024. Since then, he has featured in FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and was part of Uganda’s squad that reached the quarter-finals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Vipers head coach Denis Lavagne welcomed the midfielder, saying the club was impressed by his technical ability, intelligence and personality.

“Joel is a player with intelligence, personality and great technical quality. John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda spoke very highly of him and, after studying his qualities, it was clear he possesses the attributes we want in this team. He will add balance and creativity to our midfield, and we are delighted to welcome him to Vipers SC,” Lavagne said.

Sserunjogi said he was excited to begin a new chapter at Kitende.

“I’m somebody who goes with my gut feeling a lot of the time and I feel like it’s steered me in the right direction so far. So, I don’t think it’s going to be any different here. I think it’s going to be a great success and I’m really happy to be here,” he said.

The midfielder is expected to strengthen Vipers’ squad as they target success on both the domestic and continental stage next season.

The Venoms have already lost hard working midfielder Taddeo Lwanga, and Sserunjogi will be expected to fill the void.
