City Oilers’ new signing Jonathan Komagum made his debut on Saturday as the Oilers secured a 68-59 victory over UMU Flames in the National Basketball League at Abja Park, Naalya.
Komagum scored two points on 1-for-3 shooting but made his presence felt on the boards, collecting 12 rebounds and one assist in 17 minutes of action.
It was his first-ever appearance in the Ugandan league, and he will be hoping for improved performances as the season progresses.
The forward had been training with the team for the past few weeks and had watched two Oilers games before finally taking to the court on Saturday.
Komagum is one of three players City Oilers have signed during the mid-season transfer window. Patrick Rembert and Germaine Roebuck Jr. are also expected to join the team during the playoffs.
Fayed Bbaale and Joel Kayiira led the Oilers with 14 and 11 points respectively as the defending champions cruised to their 15th win of the season.
UMU Flames had four players score in double figures: John Otuko (21), Joshua Duallo (11), Agot Agot (10) and Gatwech Koang (10).
However, their bench struggled to make an impact, contributing just seven points, while the team also committed 27 turnovers.
The defeat was UMU Flames’ 12th of the season, having managed only four wins so far as they continue their fight for survival.
