UCU Canons and Sommet will renew their rivalry in the National Basketball League on Friday at Lugogo, with another closely contested encounter expected between the two sides.

Their first-round meeting at YMCA on February 27 lived up to the billing, as UCU edged Sommet 67-66 in a thrilling finish.

Joseph Chuma recorded a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds in the losing effort for Sommet.

Since then, Sommet have reshaped their squad during the mid-season transfer window, parting ways with foreign players Nkulu Kaseya, Karabana Diaw and Emilagba Abolahdji Abdulahi.

The club has since brought in Pauti Ozias Kikomba and Gatwang Thuok, although the latter is yet to make his debut.

Kikomba, who joined from Kampala Rockets, has featured in four games and is averaging seven points per game.

UCU, meanwhile, have won eight and lost eight games this season. They also come into the contest on the back of consecutive defeats against JT Jaguars and KCCA Panthers.

This is a repeat of last year’s semifinal clash which UCU Canons won 70-60. In the regular season last year, Sommet edged the second round meeting 62-60.
