NBL Observes Moment of Silence for Maxine Anyango

A moment of silence was observed during the National Basketball League games played over the weekend in honour of national team player Maxine Anyango, who passed away last week.

Anyango died while undergoing surgery following a knee injury she sustained during the recently concluded National Schools Games in Mukono.

The teenager had not yet featured in the National Basketball League, but had already represented Uganda at youth national team level and also earned a place on the senior women’s national basketball team, the Gazelles.

Players, officials and fans on Friday at Lugogo and Saturday at Abja Park in Naalya paid tribute to the promising youngster before tip-off in the fixtures.

A requiem mass for Anyango was held in Kamwokya on Saturday before her burial on Sunday in Tororo.
