Victoria Crocs struck first in their best-of-three National Basketball League playoffs quarterfinal series with a 61-53 victory over UCU Canons on Friday at YMCA Court in Wandegeya.

The Crocs had to come from behind after UCU won the opening quarter 16-13 and held a narrow 28-26 lead at halftime.

Coached by Roger Sserunyigo, Victoria Crocs improved significantly after the break as UCU struggled at both ends of the floor.

Jimmy Otim led the Canons with 24 points before limping off injured and was the only UCU player to score in double figures.

For the Crocs, Cyrus Wobusobozi scored 18 points, including five three-pointers, while Eric Komagum (12 points, 11 rebounds) and Chuol Nyuot (10 points, 11 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles.

UCU endured a difficult shooting night, making just four of their 23 three-point attempts. They were outrebounded 53-51, committed 21 turnovers and received only 15 points from their bench.

Victoria Crocs can seal a historic first-ever semifinal place if they win Game Two on Sunday.
