NEC FC coach Kaddu Badru has challenged his players to replicate their impressive opening-day performance when they face Lugazi in their second Uganda Premier League game of the season.

NEC made a perfect start to their campaign with a 2-0 victory over KCCA on Saturday, with Richard Basangwa and Pius Obuya scoring the goals.

Kaddu believes another display of the same quality will give his side a strong chance of claiming maximum points against Lugazi.

“We have prepared the boys well and are aware of our targets. If they replicate the performance they showed against KCCA, we will be able to come out victorious,” said Kaddu.

“We want to play good football and not concede. Lugazi are a good team, confident from a good start, and they will come hungry as well. We are taking them seriously.”

NEC finished sixth last season with 50 points but have set their sights on a title challenge this campaign, with Kaddu beginning his first season in charge.

The club strengthened its squad with the signings of Fahad Bayo, Enrique Lubwama, Enock Tumwesigye and Mustafa Mujuzi, while Joseph Sseremba is among those who have left.

NEC will, however, be without Muhammad Kagawa, although Kaddu insists he has enough quality within his squad to cope with the absence.

Lugazi also started the season with a victory, defeating Kigezi HomeBoyz 2-1 through goals from new signings Cromwell Rwothomio and Livingstone Mulondo.

Abdul Kalanzi and Mafumu Dauson remain doubts after missing Lugazi’s opening game.

NEC dominated the fixture between the two sides last season, winning both league meetings 2-0. Gideon Odong and Samuel Ssekamatte were on target when the teams last met at Lugogo.
