NEC welcome Basangwa, Atukunda back ahead of URA clash

NEC FC have received a double injury boost ahead of Tuesday’s Uganda Premier League clash against URA FC at Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

Forward Richard Basangwa returns to the squad after missing NEC’s goalless draw against Mbarara City last weekend due to injury.

Long-term absentee Tonny Atukunda has also regained full fitness and is available for selection after missing the opening three matches of the season.

However, the Diehards will still be without several players.

Forward Fahad Bayo remains sidelined with a muscle strain, while defender Ibrahim Musa continues his rehabilitation from a partial posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) tear.

Midfielder Hakim Wandera is also unavailable after joining the Uganda U20 national team in Dar es Salaam for the CECAFA U20 Championship.

NEC go into the URA encounter unbeaten in their opening three league matches, collecting seven points to sit third on the table.

Coach Badru Kaddu Mukasa says his side is ready for the challenge.

“URA FC is a good team but we are prepared to play against them and we hope to put up a good show,” Mukasa said.

Nicknamed the Diehards, NEC beat KCCA and Lugazi before a goalless draw against Mbarara City.

URA on the other hand, beat Maroons, lost to SC Villa before their Kitara game was postponed.
