Rembert shines on debut as City Oilers beat KCCA Panthers

City Oilers made a winning start to their National Basketball League quarterfinal playoff series with a 58-50 victory over KCCA Panthers on Saturday at YMCA Court in Wandegeya.

New signing Patrick Rembert impressed on his debut, finishing with 15 points, three rebounds and three assists as the Oilers took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.

Another new recruit, Germaine Roebuck, watched from the stands and is expected to feature later in the Playoffs as the Oilers bid to reclaim the league title they lost to Namuwongo Blazers last season.

The contest was closely fought in the opening stages, with KCCA Panthers leading 14-12 after the first quarter before the Oilers took control for the remainder of the game.

Fayed Bbaale led the Oilers with a game-high 18 points, while Titus Lual and Jonathan Komagum grabbed nine rebounds each.

For KCCA Panthers, Imran Samati scored 12 points and Stanley Mugerwa collected 13 rebounds.

Both teams struggled from beyond the arc, with the Oilers shooting 6-for-26 from three-point range compared to KCCA’s 5-for-19.

The sides meet again in Game Two on Wednesday at Lugogo Indoor Arena, where KCCA Panthers must win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
