Ten-man Police overcome newcomers Kataka

Police FC left hosts Kataka reeling after securing a 2-1 victory in their Uganda Premier League encounter at Bukedea Comprehensive School on Friday.

Matia Lule’s side had to dig deep to claim all three points, playing the final stages with ten men following Saidi Kyeyune’s sending-off.

Police took the lead in the 18th minute when Ali Bayo received a short free-kick from Rogers Kiwanuka before firing past goalkeeper Ronald Nsubuga.

Kataka restored parity two minutes into the second half after Daniel Jakony brought down Samuel Watuwa inside the penalty area.

Ali Sentamu stepped up and made no mistake from the spot, beating goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga to level matters for the hosts.

Police were reduced to ten men in the 63rd minute when midfielder Saidi Kyeyune received a second yellow card for a foul on Ivan Bwanika.

However, the visitors refused to settle for a point and found the winner with just four minutes remaining. Bedia Djuma Ikamba fired home from close range with a stunning finish after being set up by Charles Bbaale.

The victory lifts Police to fifth place with 14 points from nine matches, marking their fourth win of the season.

Kataka, meanwhile, remain third from bottom with just three points. They have lost six of their nine matches and are still searching for their first victory of the campaign.
