Uganda Cranes: Allan Okello headlines squad for Friendlies

Attacking midfielder Allan Okello headlines the Uganda Cranes squad for the forthcoming international window.

Uganda Cranes will face Tanzania and Madagascar on June 5 and 8 respectively in Marrakech, Morocco.

Okello has been in fine form since joining Young Africans S.C. from Vipers SC.

He scored twice on Friday as Yanga defeated Singida Black Stars in the Tanzania Premier League.

The midfielder has now registered nine goals and eight assists in the league this season.

The squad also includes 14 players from the Uganda Premier League, among them David Lukwago of SC Villa.

Speaking about the squad selection, head coach Paul Put said the matches will provide an important opportunity to assess the team ahead of the upcoming qualification campaign.

“I think these will be two good games to test where we are as a team. Qualifiers for AFCON 2027 start soon in September, October and November, so we need to be prepared,” said Put.

“This squad also includes some new names, including local players who have shown their potential and talent this year. I want to give them a chance.

“We also had to deal with injuries. Players like Toby Sibbick are not 100 per cent fit, while Elio Capradossi, Nafian Alionzi and Jude Ssemugabi are carrying injuries. Uche Ikpeazu has not been playing regularly because his club season ended early, so he is not in this squad. These are the selections for this campaign.”
