•Kitara 0-0 Vipers
Kitara’s Jasper Aheebwa escaped a red card despite a nasty tackle on Vipers’ Milton Karisa as the two sides played out a goalless draw in the first leg of their Uganda Cup semifinal at Royals Park, Butema.
In the 37th minute, Aheebwa poked out his leg, with studs landing on the middle of Karisa’s right leg.
The dangerous tackle left Karisa in visible pain and forced him off, with Marvin Joseph Youngman coming on as his replacement.
Surprisingly, the incident did not even draw a yellow card for the Kitara captain, who went on to complete the full 90 minutes.
Kitara were the better side overall, with Vipers having goalkeeper Denis Kiggundu to thank for a couple of brilliant saves.
The shot-stopper denied Henry Musisi as early as the third minute, tipping his cross onto the crossbar.
Around the half-hour mark, Kiggundu nearly mishandled a tame effort from Gaddafi Wahab before the ball rolled out for a corner.
Late on, he produced another crucial save, pushing Kabon Living’s free-kick over the bar to keep Vipers level.
Vipers offered little going forward, with their best chance falling to Yunus Ssentamu, whose effort was saved by Meddie Kibirige in the 60th minute.
The two sides will meet again in the return leg on Friday, May 15, at Kitende.
