•SC Villa Vs Kitara – Njeru, 3pm
SC Villa are targeting their first Uganda Cup title in 11 years when they face Kitara FC in Saturday’s final at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
The Jogoos last lifted the trophy in 2015 after defeating KCCA 3-0 in a rescheduled final at Namboole Stadium. That victory secured their ninth Uganda Cup crown, leaving them just one title behind joint record holders KCCA and Express, who have won the competition 10 times each.
To reach this year’s final, SC Villa overcame URA FC 3-0 on aggregate in the two-legged semifinals. James Begisa scored an own goal while attempting to block Ibrahim Kasinde’s goal-bound effort as Villa claimed a 1-0 victory in the return leg at Kadiba, having already secured a 2-0 win in the first leg at Nakivubo.
Along the way, the record Uganda Premier League champions eliminated Pallisa Hospital (Round of 64), BUL FC (Round of 32), Maroons FC (Round of 16) and Happy Boyz Kagaba (quarterfinals).
“My first year in Uganda and reaching the final is already a big achievement for me, but winning the cup would mean even more for the club,” said SC Villa head coach Zeljko Kovacevic.
“We shall do everything possible to emerge victorious on Saturday. We expect a difficult game, but we shall play with confidence. Our approach will be different from the previous games because we are going for it.
“We are facing a very good and experienced team coached by Wasswa Bbosa, so we anticipate a tough match, but we shall work hard.”
Kitara, meanwhile, reached the final after eliminating defending champions Vipers on the away goals rule. The Royals earned a 1-1 draw away at Kitende after a goalless first leg at Royals Park Butema in Hoima.
Earlier in their cup run, Kitara knocked out Obule Earthquake, Entebbe UPPC, Bunyaruguru and Express FC.
The final will be played in Njeru after FUFA reversed its earlier decision to stage the match at Kadiba. Kitara had protested the choice of venue, arguing that Kadiba, one of SC Villa’s home grounds, would give the Jogoos an unfair advantage.
Kitara won their maiden Uganda Cup title in 2024 after defeating NEC FC in the final at Wankulukuku.
