UPDF Under Pressure Ahead of UPPC Clash

Thursday, May 7
•Entebbe UPPC vs UPDF – Bugonga, 4pm
•KCCA vs Maroons – Lugogo, 8pm

UPDF FC will be fighting for a positive result when they visit Entebbe UPPC in a Uganda Premier League clash at the Fisheries Ground in Bugonga, as they seek to boost their survival chances.

The visitors start the day 14th on the 16-team table with 21 points, just four points above the relegation zone.

Pressure is mounting on the Army side, especially after fellow relegation candidates Calvary secured a stunning win over Police, while Buhimba are yet to play.

UPDF have flirted with relegation in recent seasons, and this campaign has proved no different.

Results have largely gone against Alex Gitta’s side, who have managed just five wins in 26 matches this season.

They head into the fixture on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Police and can ill afford another setback.

UPPC, on the other hand, will be aiming to build on their recent 2-0 victory over Calvary.

Issa Bugembe and Ambrose Kigozi were on target as Abdallah Mubiru’s side registered their 12th win of the campaign.

UPPC sit seventh on the table with 43 points from 26 games.

Kigozi scored the lone goal when UPPC edged UPDF 1-0 at Bombo in the first-round meeting.

The forward, who has scored 11 goals this season, will also be chasing a personal milestone as he looks to close the gap on KCCA FC’s Ivan Ahimbisibwe (12) in the race for the league’s top scorer award.
