Uganda Cup: Meddie Kibirige back as Kitara visit Vipers

•Vipers Vs Kitara – Kitende, 7pm

Kitara FC have goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige back for their Uganda Cup semifinal return leg against Vipers SC at St. Mary’s Stadium.

Kibirige returns from suspension after missing the club’s recent matches against NEC FC and Express FC.

The goalkeeper was sanctioned by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations Disciplinary Panel following a league game against Vipers at the same venue, after he kicked Vipers captain Milton Karisa in the chest.

The incident also led to referee Asadu Ssemeere being suspended for three months for failing to penalize Kibirige.

In Kibirige’s absence, goalkeeper Saleh Azizi featured in both matches, with Kitara losing 1-0 to NEC FC before suffering a 3-2 defeat to Express.

The match against Express at Nakivubo highlighted Kibirige’s importance to the team. Azizi was at fault for two of Express’ goals, he made a mess of Kenneth Kimera’s long-range effort to slip through him before unnecessarily rushing out of his area, which allowed Henry Wamala to score into an empty net.

The first leg in Hoima was also tense, with Jasper Aheebwa fortunate to avoid a red card after a reckless challenge on Karisa.

That encounter ended goalless, leaving Kitara needing any scoring draw to advance to the final. Another goalless draw will send the tie to penalties.

Defending champions Vipers will be targeting victory to book a place in the final, where either SC Villa or URA await.
