FUFA takes Uganda Cup final to Kadiba

The 2026 Uganda Cup final between SC Villa and Kitara FC will be played on Saturday, May 30, at FUFA Stadium Kadiba, FUFA has revealed.

Kadiba also hosted last year’s final, where Vipers SC defeated KCCA FC 2-0 to lift the trophy.

The decision appears to favour SC Villa, who have used Kadiba as their home ground throughout this campaign.

Villa reached the final after beating URA FC 3-0 on aggregate, including a 1-0 win at Kadiba in the return leg courtesy of James Begisa’s own goal.

Kitara advanced on the away goals rule after a 1-1 aggregate draw against defending champions Vipers SC.

The two finalists also met at Kadiba in the league this season, with Villa edging Kitara 1-0 thanks to Frank Ssebuufu’s strike.

A decision that raises questions

Kitara are likely to feel aggrieved by the choice of venue, given SC Villa’s familiarity with the stadium and the advantage that could come with it.

FUFA could argue that Kadiba hosted last year’s final as well. However, unlike this year, neither of the finalists in 2025 — Vipers SC and KCCA FC — used the stadium as their home ground.

Kadiba is FUFA’s stadium, but so is the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.

The decision might have been viewed more fairly had the venue been communicated before the finalists were confirmed.

With limited infrastructure in Ugandan football, FUFA’s options are restricted.

Cost considerations may also have influenced the choice over alternatives such as Hamz Stadium Nakivubo, St Mary’s Stadium or Phillip Omondi Stadium among others.
