Premier League Super Sundays have become a big part of football culture around the world, bringing excitement, banter, and shared emotions among fans.
In Uganda, Super Sundays have also become special, with many football lovers making them part of their weekend plans.
Through Guinness Matchday on Tour activations, fans are now enjoying more than just watching football. They are becoming part of the full matchday experience.
On Sunday, April 19, Masaka Sports Club hosted one of these exciting events as the Guinness Matchday Truck arrived in town, bringing the Premier League action closer to fans.
Supporters dressed in both old-school and current football jerseys filled the venue early, looking for the best spots to enjoy the games and the lively atmosphere.
The main attraction of the day was the big clash between Manchester City and Arsenal. Before kickoff, only six points separated the two teams, with City still having a game in hand, making the match important in the Premier League title race.
Many fans called it the match of the season, and it lived up to expectations. Manchester City secured a hard-fought win over Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium, with Erling Haaland scoring the winning goal in the second half.
Both teams created several chances in a tense and exciting game. Rayan Cherki had earlier given City the lead with brilliant footwork inside the box. Arsenal quickly responded just 107 seconds later after a mistake by City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma allowed Kai Havertz to score the equaliser.
After the final whistle, fans in Masaka continued their usual football debates, with many discussing Arsenal’s chances of winning the title and whether they could handle the pressure.
Away from the football, the event had a festival feel with nonstop entertainment.
DJs Woodgate, Brattah, and Andy DJ kept the crowd energized with lively music throughout the day, while local singer Ava Peace closed the event with a live performance of some of her popular songs.
Guinness also hosted similar Matchday experiences in other parts of the country. In Kampala, fans gathered at the Villa in Bukoto where the brand partnered with SuperSport. Other activations were held at Supremacy Lounge in Nakulabye, D’Ajango in Hoima, and D Plus outlets in Gulu and Kitgum.
Guinness Brand Manager Denise Nazzinda said the brand is preparing an even bigger event as the Premier League season comes to an end.
“On Sunday, May 24, we will host the 2025/26 Premier League season finale at UMA Grounds in Lugogo. The event will bring together the very best of what we have delivered throughout the season. We have a lot planned, including exciting entertainment and many activities for everyone to enjoy,” she said.
As the Premier League season reaches its final stages, Guinness Matchday activations are expected to continue giving fans memorable football experiences across the country.
