Paul Put Set to Ring Changes as Uganda Cranes Face DR Congo

Friday, October 2
•Uganda Vs DR Congo – 4pm

Uganda Cranes coach Paul Put is expected to make several changes when his side takes on DR Congo in an international friendly this Friday at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Two of the seven heritage players, Arnold Vula and Kevin Owusu Boateng, featured against Libya, with Vula scoring the only goal as Uganda secured a 1-nil victory in Hoima.

The other five heritage players, goalkeepers Kingdom Osayi and Akpan Udoh, Diaby Souleymane, Gaucho Debohi Dieudonne and Abdoulaye Sissako, are in line to make their debuts.

Captain Denis Onyango, Rogers Mato, Abdu Aziz Kayondo, Nathan Asiimwe and Noble Okello missed the trip following a decision by the technical team.

Meanwhile, Toto Majub Brian and Sadam Masereka, who were initially called up but did not feature in the recent games against Tunisia and Libya, have been added to the travelling squad.

The Friday encounter is the first of two friendlies Uganda has lined up against DR Congo, with the second scheduled for October 5.

The Cranes will come up against their former coach, Sebastien Desabre, who guided Uganda to the round of 16 at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

DR Congo head into the friendly on the back of a perfect start to their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign, having beaten Equatorial Guinea 2-nil before securing a 2-1 away victory over Zimbabwe.
