Blacks Power FC forward Ivan Okello was rushed to hospital in an ambulance after suffering a suspected broken leg during Saturday’s 3-2 Uganda Premier League victory over URA FC in Bukedea.
Okello’s injury was the major setback for Blacks Power, who played their first home game at Bukedea this season.
The forward came on in the 61st minute to replace Andrea Ogwal but was later left writhing in pain following a challenge from URA midfielder Norman Namanya, who was shown a red card for the tackle.
An ambulance was called onto the pitch to evacuate the injured player as teammates and other players expressed their concern over the severity of the injury.
Innocent Maduka, Emmanuel Oketch and Oscar Otim scored for Blacks Power, while Dissan Galiwango netted a brace for URA FC.
Following the match, Blacks Power dedicated the victory to their injured teammate.
“We dedicate this important win to our injured teammate, Ivan Okello, who suffered a heartbreaking injury during the game,” the club posted at full-time.
“We stand with you, Ivan, and wish you the quickest recovery possible. Stay strong, Warrior! You are never alone.”
The match marked Blacks Power’s first appearance in Bukedea this season after the club was asked by the National Council of Sports (NCS), through the management of Hoima City Stadium, to find an alternative venue.
The victory was Blacks Power’s fourth in seven league matches, lifting them to fifth place on 12 points.
Meanwhile, pressure continues to mount on URA FC head coach Jimmy Kintu Mweres after his side suffered a fourth defeat in six matches.
The Tax Collectors remain in the relegation zone, sitting 15th with just four points.
