Uganda’s Alfred Ojok has advanced to the Round of 16 of the men’s light heavyweight (80kg) boxing competition at the ongoing 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, after defeating Niue’s Anitelea Launiu.
Ojok registered a dominant unanimous 5-0 victory on Saturday, with all five judges scoring the contest in his favour (29-27, 29-27, 29-28, 30-26 and 30-26).
The Ugandan will return to the ring on Monday to face England’s Dimeji Shittu for a place in the quarterfinals. Shittu received a bye into the Round of 16.
Meanwhile, Uganda’s Ibrahim Khemis bowed out of the competition after suffering a unanimous defeat to Zambia’s Albert Ngulube in the men’s lightweight (60kg) division.
Ngulube claimed a 5-0 victory, with the judges scoring the bout 29-26, 29-26, 29-26, 28-27 and 29-26.
Uganda is represented by six boxers at the Glasgow Games.
Nuhu Batte became the country’s first boxer to compete on Friday, defeating Nigeria’s Abdulwahab Abdulramon by unanimous decision in the men’s welterweight (65kg) Round of 32 to book his place in the Round of 16.
