Hippos, Warriors Relegated from Uganda Rugby Premiership

Hippos and Warriors have been relegated from the Uganda Rugby Premiership after losing their respective Relegation Playoff ties on Saturday.

At the end of the regular season, the four bottom teams were pitted together in two-legged ties, with the two winners confirming their stay.

In the first tie at The Ruck Yard, Hippos produced a spirited second-leg performance, defeating Kakira Simbas 21–10 in front of their home supporters.

However, Kakira Simbas’ 22–6 advantage from the opening leg proved decisive. Despite the defeat in the return match, they held on to win 32–27 on aggregate.

That result confirmed survival for Kakira Simbas in what has been a challenging but successful Premiership campaign, especially after stepping into the top division as newcomers.

For Hippos, the result confirmed relegation following administrative chaos despite a previous run to the Premiership final last year.

In the second playoff clash, Rhinos sealed their Premiership status with a 13–8 win over Warriors at Kyambogo.

The match was tighter than the first leg, with Warriors showing improved discipline and urgency as they tried to recover from a heavy deficit.

The 13–8 result completed a dominant 47–20 aggregate win for Rhinos, ensuring they remain in the Premiership for the 2027 season.

Warriors, meanwhile, exit the top flight without registering a single win in the campaign.

Both Hippos and Warriors will now drop into the Regional 15s Playoffs, where they will compete for promotion back to the Premiership.

In the championship playoffs, Impis eliminated Kobs to storm the final after a 42-33 aggregate win following a 30-10 win in the return leg at Legends.

Pirates beat Walukuba Barbarians, Heathens beat Victoria Sharks while Buffaloes also progressed after eliminating Mongers.
