KCCA FC and URA FC will renew their rivalry on Friday night when they face off in a crucial Uganda Premier League encounter at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, with both sides eager to strengthen their positions in the early stages of the 2026/27 campaign.
Both teams will be seeking for maximum points after experiencing mixed fortunes in their opening league fixtures.
KCCA head into the encounter buoyed by a 1-0 victory over Kataka FC at Lugogo in their previous outing, their first of the season.
URA, meanwhile, will be desperate to return to winning ways after suffering consecutive defeats. The Tax Collectors have won once, a 2-1 victory over Maroons, in their first three matches and face a stern test against a KCCA side looking to build momentum.
KCCA head coach Brian Ssenyondo believes the international break provided an opportunity to address the team’s shortcomings, particularly in front of goal.
Speaking to the club’s media ahead of the encounter, Ssenyondo said his players had worked on several aspects of their game and must now translate that preparation into a strong performance against URA.
“We are a team that creates chances, and now we need to convert them,” Ssenyondo said, expressing confidence that the team had made progress in finding solutions to its early-season challenges.
The two sides, in their last 34 meetings across league and cup competitions, the Tax Collectors have registered 15 victories, compared with KCCA’s 11, while eight matches have ended in draws.
Their most recent league meeting in May 2026 ended in a goalless draw. However, their Uganda Cup quarter-final clash in April provided greater drama, with URA advancing after a 4-2 penalty shootout victory following a 2-2 draw in normal time.
KCCA have received a boost with forward Ivan Ahimbsibwe returning to the matchday squad.
Ahimbsibwe, who was the league’s leading scorer during the 2025/26 season, could provide an important attacking option as the Cityzens seek to improve their goalscoring output.
Club captain Herbert Achayi has also returned from national duty and is available for selection, providing further experience and leadership ahead of the contest.
However, Etienne Katenga, Shafik Kwikiriza and Anthony Emojong remain unavailable as they continue their rehabilitation from injuries.
