NEC FC moved into second place in the Uganda Premier League after a convincing 4-1 victory over URA FC at the Omondi Stadium Lugogo on Tuesday.
Despite conceding after just one minute, the Diehards produced an impressive response to overturn the deficit and claim their third win of the campaign.
Isma Mugulusi put URA ahead early, but NEC quickly settled and levelled through James Jarieko in the 14th minute, with Emmanuel Ajo providing the assist.
The hosts continued to dominate and eventually took the lead four minutes before halftime when Richard Basangwa finished calmly after Enrique Lubwama had done the hard work to create the opportunity.
NEC added a third just before the break, with Lubwama reacting quickest after Ajo’s effort struck the woodwork to score his first goal for the club.
Basangwa then completed his brace five minutes into the second half, combining with Lubwama in a slick one-touch move before finishing to put NEC 4-1 up.
URA offered little in response, with Arthur Kiggundu coming close only for his header to go direct at Hannington Ssebwalunyo’s safe hands.
And NEC comfortably controlled the remainder of the match to secure all three points.
The victory takes NEC to 10 points, two behind leaders BUL FC.
URA who beat Maroons before a loss against SC Villa, remain on three points while URA will host KCCA after the International break.
NEC will now break for the international window before returning to league action on October 8, when they host Express FC.
