SC Villa captain David Owori has said the club’s new signings must learn and embrace the club’s culture through their own experiences rather than simply being told about it.
Owori was speaking to the media ahead of SC Villa’s opening match of the 2026 FUFA Super 8 against Maroons on Saturday at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
The record Uganda Premier League champions have focused on recruiting young talent as they build a squad capable of competing for years to come.
Among the notable arrivals is John Assiimwe, who joined after leaving Express FC. The midfielder represented Uganda at the FIFA U-17 World Cup last year with the Cubs.
Striker Isaac Gumperom is another exciting addition after finishing as the FUFA Big League’s top scorer with 17 goals for Young Elephant last season.
SC Villa have also signed former Bulemeezi captain Steven Pivot Mugisha and Tonny Zuzu Asiku from Arua Airfield FC.
Head coach Zeljko Kovacevic has taken a cautious approach in the transfer market, preferring to assess players in training before making final decisions on their recruitment.
Owori revealed that the team has played three to four pre-season friendly matches, which have helped the new players understand what it means to represent SC Villa.
“The club has very big ambitions and we are so prepared for any competition that comes up,” Owori said.
“We have played three to four friendly games. You don’t need to sit down with every new player because every match gives them an insight into what you need to know and do. I think they are prepared to give their best.”
SC Villa will be aiming to build on an encouraging 2025/26 campaign, in which they finished third in the Uganda Premier League and reached the Uganda Cup final before losing to Kitara FC.
However, they will have to cope without several key players who have departed the club, including Missi Ssemugera, Charles Lwanga, Elvis Ngonde, Hassan Mubiru, Norman Angufindru, Frank Mulimi and Brady Jeans Wokorach.
