UCU Lady Canons out to wrap up NBL title

Sunday, August 30
•UCU Lady Canons Vs JT Lady Jaguars – Lugogo, 6pm

UCU Lady Canons will hope to wrap up the National Basketball League title when they take on JT Lady Jaguars in Game Five of the finals on Sunday at Lugogo.

The Canons lead the best-of-seven series 3-1 and will be crowned champions with a victory.

They could have sealed the title on Friday after winning the opening three games, but JT Lady Jaguars bounced back emphatically to keep their hopes alive with a 72-52 victory in Game Four.

The question now is whether the Jaguars can stop the celebrations once again and replicate their impressive performance from Friday.

Sandra Ayikoru and Brenda Kayaga led the Jaguars with 18 points apiece, while Mercy Batamuliza pulled down 16 rebounds in the victory.

For UCU, Shilla Lamunu and Sylvia Nantongo scored 13 and 11 points respectively, as the Canons lacked the spark that had carried them through the opening three games.

Matrina Anyango, who has been one of UCU’s most reliable performers, also struggled offensively, finishing with six points, although she grabbed 12 rebounds.

Coach Sudi Ulanga will be hoping for another big performance from his key players, including Sarah Ageno, if the Jaguars are to keep their hopes of winning a maiden league title alive.

UCU Lady Canons are chasing a record-extending ninth Women’s National Basketball League title, but they have not won the championship in the last three seasons.
