•Vipers 3-0 Entebbe UPPC

Vipers moved closer to defending the Uganda Premier League title after a deserved 3-0 win over Entebbe UPPC on Sunday.

Yunus Sentamu scored a brace before substitute Gusto Mulongo put the icing on the cake.

The victory strengthens Vipers’ grip at the top of the Uganda Premier League table, taking them to 58 points—seven clear of the chasing pack of KCCA, SC Villa, and Kitara, who are all on 51 points.

With five games left to play, it would take a major collapse for Vipers to surrender this healthy lead as they chase an eighth league title.

They are currently tied on seven titles with Express, with only SC Villa (17) and KCCA (13) having won more.

The result also saw Vipers complete a league double over Entebbe UPPC, having beaten them 1-0 in the season opener at Fisheries Ground in Bugonga.

Yunus Sentamu walks back on time

Yunus Sentamu reminded everyone just how good a striker he is by turning back the clock with what was arguably his best performance of the season so far.

Coming into the match, Sentamu had scored only two league goals this season, against Lugazi and Mbarara City FC.

It has been a difficult campaign for him, with playing time hard to come by.

Even his inclusion in the starting lineup raised a few eyebrows given his poor run of form.

He has been a shadow of himself since scoring 16 goals to win the golden boot in the 2020/21 season.

However, he looked lively on Sunday and almost gave Vipers SC an early lead, only to be flagged offside.

A few minutes later, he had a shot cleared off the line by Sam Kintu after beating two of his markers.

Four minutes into the second half, he broke the deadlock, rising highest to head home a corner from Karim Watambala.

The second arrived in the 76th minute, as he showed poacher’s instinct and sharp positioning to tap in after neat work from Enock Ssebagala.

That healthy lead helped Vipers settle into the game before substitute Gusto headed in from a good cross by Enock Luyima.

Sentamu now takes his tally to six goals across all competitions this season, having earlier scored against Power Dynamos FC and African Stars FC in the CAF Champions League preliminaries.

What next – Vipers visit KCCA on Wednesday at Lugogo while Entebbe UPPC will welcome Calvary FC at Bugonga on the same day.
