Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC begin their title defence on Friday when they host Entebbe UPPC at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Vipers head into the new campaign under new coach Denis Lavagne, who replaced Ivan Minnaert despite the Belgian guiding the club to the league title last season.
Lavagne says his team is ready after seven weeks of preparation and winning the FUFA Super Cup.
Vipers have also strengthened their squad with several new signings, including goalkeeper Loyce Mbaba, defenders Princewill Biweribo Tarabina, Nicholas Mwere and Jacques Mangoba, midfielder Joel Serunjogi, and forwards Farouk Miya and Cesar Manzoki.
Meanwhile, Entebbe UPPC, who finished fifth last season with 51 points, will look to cause an upset under coach Abdallah Mubiru.
However, UPPC will be without several players for the opener, including former Vipers defender Grant Matsiko, Ahmed Amayo, Isa Bugembe, Julius Poloto, Ambrose Kigozi and Anwar Ntege.
Vipers won both meetings between the sides last season, beating UPPC 1-nil in Bugonga and 3-nil at Kitende.
