SC Villa secured bragging rights in the Kampala Derby after defeating Express FC 2-0 at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
The Jogoos made a flying start, taking the lead just five minutes into the contest through Patrick Jonah Kakande.
Kakande was in the right place to finish from close range after Ibrahim Kasinde delivered a well-weighted cross into the box.
Express gradually settled into the game and created several opportunities to restore parity before the break.
Nicholas Jjonga found himself in a promising position but chose to square the ball to Isaac Wagoina, whose effort was blocked.
Wagoina came even closer moments later when he met a cross from Shafik Batambuze, but his header drifted narrowly wide.
The Red Eagles continued to push after the restart, with substitute Peter Onzima also coming close to making an impact against his former side. His low delivery flashed across the Villa goal without finding a teammate.
Villa, however, remained dangerous on the break and eventually put the game beyond Express in stoppage time.
Andrew Otim reacted fastest to Steven Mugisha’s ball into the area and calmly lifted it over advancing goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya to make it 2-0.
The result gives Villa back-to-back victories after their 1-0 success against URA, following a 1-1 draw with Kitara in their opening game.
Express have now suffered their second defeat in three matches. They lost to BUL in Njeru on matchday one before responding with a 2-0 victory over KCCA.
