Calvary FC climbed off the bottom of the Uganda Premier League table after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Police FC on Wednesday in Midigo.

Lawrence Olaboro scored the only goal of the game, striking with 10 minutes to play after being set up by Simon Peter Odeke.

The goal takes his tally to six this season, making him a standout performer for the newcomers, who have endured a difficult debut campaign in the top flight.

Calvary had earlier thought they had taken the lead through Emmanuel Loki, but the effort was ruled out for offside.

Police FC offered little going forward, with their best chance coming early on when James Brian Obedi struck the crossbar from a free kick.

The result lifts Calvary to 15th on the 16-team table with 16 points, five points from safety with three games remaining.

They must win their remaining fixtures against URA (A), UPDF (A), and NEC FC (H) to keep their survival hopes alive.

For Police, it was their ninth defeat of the season, leaving Matia Lule’s side sixth on 44 points.
