Uganda Premier League side Express FC have unveiled Morley Byekwaso as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The appointment is part of the club’s rebuilding process after the Red Eagles named Becky Cynthia Nakimera as Chief Executive Officer earlier this month.
Byekwaso replaces Jimmy Kintu Mwera, who recently left to take over at URA FC.
The former SC Villa coach was officially unveiled on Saturday morning through a video shared on the club’s social media platforms.
In the video, Byekwaso walks onto the Nakivubo Stadium pitch, juggles the ball before picking up the Express FC flag and a jersey bearing his name, “Morley.”
He then delivers a message to the club’s supporters:
“I am honored to lead this special club. Together we will believe, fight and build a special club. We respect Mukwano Gwa Bangi, square pass omuliro.”
He concludes by saying:
“I can’t wait to see the fans in the stands.”
Byekwaso has signed a two-year contract, with the club expected to announce his backroom staff in the coming days.
His immediate task will be to rebuild the squad and guide Express back into contention after the club finished 10th in the Uganda Premier League last season.
Byekwaso returns to a club he represented as a player in 2008 following spells at KCCA, SC Villa and Rwanda’s Atraco FC.
His coaching career began at Lugazi United before he joined KCCA FC as an assistant under Matia Lule and Baker Mbowa, later serving as interim head coach. He subsequently moved to Club Victoria University, where he started as an assistant before taking charge of the team.
After a brief spell with Simba FC, Byekwaso returned to KCCA as assistant coach under Mike Mutebi. He again served as interim head coach before eventually being appointed to the role permanently.
At national team level, he guided the Uganda Hippos to the final of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and also had a stint as interim Uganda Cranes head coach.
Most recently, Byekwaso coached SC Villa during the 2024/25 season before leaving the club in June 2025.
