UCU Lady Canons eliminate KCCA to reach final

UCU Lady Canons have reached the National Basketball League Finals after eliminating KCCA Leopards with an 84-53 victory in Game Four on Friday at Lugogo.

The Mukono-based side sealed a 3-1 series win in the best-of-five semifinals, having won the opening two games before KCCA pulled one back in Game Three.

The series was then paused as UCU had players representing Uganda at the FIBA 3×3 Youth Nations League with the Under-21 national team.

KCCA made a strong start in Game Four, taking the opening quarter 19-14. UCU responded emphatically, winning the second quarter 19-8 before taking control of the contest and never looking back.

Martrina Anyango led UCU with a double-double of 27 points and 11 rebounds, while Sylvia Nakituuka added 20 points in another commanding performance.

Susan Becca Aanyu was KCCA’s standout performer with 21 points, the only Leopards player to reach double figures.

UCU dominated the boards 56-45, while KCCA struggled from beyond the arc, making just nine of their 39 three-point attempts.

The defeat brings another disappointing season to an end for KCCA, but they were ultimately beaten by a stronger UCU side that now turns its attention to the final, where they will face favorites JT Lady Jaguars.

UCU will be hoping to upset the Jaguars and cap their impressive playoff run with the league title.
