Uganda Cranes squad for Tunisia, Libya summoned

Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has named a 28-man squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, with several new faces earning their first call-ups.

Uganda, who automatically qualified for next year’s tournament as co-hosts, will travel to Tunisia on September 24, 2026, before hosting Libya at the new Hoima City Stadium on September 29.

Nathan Assiimwe who recently joined Salford City from Charlton on loan returns to the fold while Noble Okello of Lexington SC, and Saddam Masereka of Orlando Springs are the new faces.

The squad also features several established players, including captain Denis Onyango, Allan Okello, Steven Mukwala, Rogers Mato, and Travis Mutyaba.

Eight locally based players have been included, among them goalkeepers David Lukwago of SC Villa and Hannington Ssebwalunyo of NEC.

Other local-based players summoned are Jonathan Odong of UPPC, Geoffrey Lubangakene and Frank Ssebuufu of SC Villa, Hillary Mukundane of Vipers, and Richard Basangwa of NEC.

FUFA has also arranged two international friendly matches against DR Congo, scheduled for October 2 and 5, 2026.
